L’objectif principal de cette conversation est de réunir des chercheurs qui écrivaient dans les années 1990 sur la diversité profonde au Canada avec des universitaires qui écrivent sur ce sujet aujourd’hui. Avoir la première génération de chercheurs qui ont écrit sur ces thèmes dans la même salle que ceux de la nouvelle génération qui ont, en quelque sorte, hérité de cette tradition propre au Québec et au Canada, peut être très éclairant.
L’un des objectifs de ce cercle de dialogue sera de comparer et d’opposer les premiers écrits et idées sur la diversité profonde avec les idées de la nouvelle génération de spécialistes de la démocratie et de la diversité travaillant sur le Québec et le Canada.
La comparaison et l’opposition de ces deux générations nous offrent l’opportunité de réfléchir ensemble à ce que « regarder vers l’avenir » pourrait bien signifier aujourd’hui. La diversité profonde est le terrain d’entente qui existe entre les peuples autochtones et les Québécois, et un bon point de départ pour ces sessions du GRSP sur les Héritages de la diversité profonde.

The main aim of this conversation is to bring together scholars who were writing in the 90s about deep diversity in Canada with scholars that are writing about it today. Having the first generation of scholars who wrote about these themes in the same room with the new generation of scholars who have, in a way, inherited this tradition that is specific to Québec and Canada, can be very elucidating.
One of the purposes of this dialogue circle will be to compare and contrast early writings and ideas on deep diversity with the ideas of the new generation of democracy and diversity scholars working on and in Québec and Canada.
The comparing and contrasting of these two generations of scholars/scholarship offers us the opportunity of thinking together what « looking foward » might really mean today. Deep diversity is the common ground that exists between Indigenous peoples and Québécois, and a good point of departure for these GRSP sessions on Legacies of Deep Diversity.
